Minor Baseball

Minor Baseball is an intermediate level division for players, ages 8-10. The goal of the Minor Baseball division is to prepare players for eventual selection to a Major Division team. Minor Baseball players are learning and advancing in their baseball knowledge and skills, including pitching. Girls desiring to play baseball instead of softball are permitted to do so.

The Minor Baseball program is the next step after Rookies Coach Pitch Baseball where players will learn some of the more advanced skills of the game.

Inexperienced Little Leaguers should consider playing one season of Rookies Coach Pitch Baseball before advancing to Minor Baseball. Players at this level will participate in Tryouts (late-February), and will be drafted to a team by Team Managers (early-March). Parents that have questions about their player playing up in Major Baseball or down in Rookies Coach Pitch Baseball should contact the MALL board to discuss before registering.

Minor Baseball players use bats and baseballs designated specifically for use in this division. The roster size for a Minor team averages 10-12 players depending on parent involvement in coaching, with a season featuring 1-2 practices per week and 1-2 games per week played on weeknights and/or Saturdays. The diamond used is a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet.

Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in this entry level of Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, board members and other volunteer positions within the league.
