The Junior Baseball division is an advanced level division for players, ages 12-14. Junior Baseball players are often playing middle school baseball alongside Junior Baseball. Girls desiring to play baseball instead of softball are permitted to do so.
The Junior Baseball program is the next step after Major Baseball where players will learn some of the more advanced skills of the game.
Inexperienced Little Leaguers should consider playing one season of Major or 50/70 Baseball before advancing to Junior Baseball. Players at this level will participate in Tryouts (late-February), and will be drafted to a team by Team Managers (early-March). Parents that have questions about their player playing up in Senior Baseball or down in Major Baseball should
contact the MALL board to discuss before registering.
Junior Baseball players use bats and baseballs designated specifically for use in this division. The roster size for a Junior team averages 10-12 players depending on parent involvement in coaching, with a season featuring 1-2 practices per week and 1-2 games per week played on weeknights and/or Saturdays. The diamond used is a 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches.
Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in this teenage level of Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, board members and other volunteer positions within the league.
