Minor Softball is an intermediate level division for girls, ages 8-10. The goal of the Minor Baseball division is to prepare players for eventual selection to a Major Division team. Minor Softball players are learning and advancing in their softball knowledge and skills, including pitching. Boys are not permitted to play softball.
The Minor Softball program is the next step after Rookies Coach Pitch Softball where girls will learn some of the more advanced skills of the game.
Inexperienced Little Leaguers should consider playing one season of Rookies Coach Pitch Softball before advancing to Minor Softball. Players at this level will participate in Tryouts (late-February), and will be drafted to a team by Team Managers (early-March). Parents that have questions about their player playing up in Major Softball or down in Rookies Coach Pitch Softball should
contact the MALL board to discuss before registering.
Minor Softball players use bats and baseballs designated specifically for use in this division. The roster size for a Minor team averages 10-12 players depending on parent involvement in coaching, with a season featuring 1-2 practices per week and 1-2 games per week played on weeknights and/or Saturdays. The diamond has 60-foot base paths and a 35 foot pitching distance.
Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in this entry level of Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, board members and other volunteer positions within the league.
